PHOTOS: Gettin' to Work. 06/15/06

Starting the half-mile-or-so walk to the site.

Some of the workers (only about half showed up).

El Burro, or, The Donkey.

The Tatakala monolith, amongst the frolicking vacas (cows). Better pictures to come later.

Kids at school. Looks fun, no?

Our little home.

Water spigot (in foreground), non-functioning shower (back left), and the mound where the outhouse used to be (back center).

Kitchen.

Work/play room.

Coca leaves with charcoal stuff; coca tea.

Essentials: Toddy powdered chocolate drink and powdered milk. Family sizes.

The fruits of my labor: an organized shelving system. Labels in Spanish AND English, so everybody can learn together.

The Project Biblioteca (“Library”). Everyone brings their own books, but they usually get lost. It’s a bit blurry, but you might be able to see that Fiction/Poetry attracted the most titles (lower left).

Field supplies.
